Each day during our school week your child will attend special classes to meet all the goals of our curriculum. The following information can make you aware of what the students will be doing in these other classes.
Music: During music class twice a week, Miss Steffy and Mrs. Oleson will work with your child to learn about rhythm instruments, singing, dancing, and many varieties of music. You will have a chance to see these skills in action during the spring music showcase.
Physical Education Class: Your child will be attending physical education two times per week. Mrs. Ellwanger and Mrs. Mulvehill will be working with them to develop motor skills, awareness of the human body and how it works, and a positive outlook on physical fitness. The gym floor is made of tile and can be very slippery for children not wearing correct footwear. Please make sure your child is wearing soft soled shoes on physical education days.
Library: Library is held one time per week for a half an hour session. During library time your child will hear a story told by Mrs. Auckerman or Mrs. Schmidt. They both do a marvelous job of storytelling so be sure to ask your child what story they heard on their library days. At the end of the class each student may select a book to check out and take home. These books are kept for one week and need to be returned by the following library day so that they may check out another one. If books are lost they will have to be paid for before the next book can be checked out. Reminders will be sent home for any books not returned. Please be sure to discuss book handling skills with your child so that the books are returned in good condition. You may want to set aside a special place for the books so younger siblings can not damage them.
Computer Class: During our weekly 35 minute computer class, Mr. Melendez will introduce computer skills and programs to your child. We can use these skills back in our classroom as we work on our classroom computers. Our class also has an extra computer lab time every two weeks to further practice these concepts.
Art Class: For a block of 3 months, your child will have a weekly art class . The art instructor and will be working with your child with design, color, shape, and other art techniques. You may want to avoid sending your child in their best clothes on art days as creativity can also be messy. Please keep an eye out for our monthly calendar for art days.
